Somebody claimed a beast and heard nothing for five days
On the 11th, the first person outside my own family claimed one of the sixty-six. Then nothing happened. No message, no note saying what the beast he had just been given actually does — because the only thing that would have reached him was me remembering, and I did not for five days. That is the moment somebody decides whether a thing is alive. Registration opens on the 21st, so it was about to stop being one person.
Shipped today: a claim now composes one message from that beast’s own faculty rather than a template. Ukpik’s says it judges a finished thing; Kraken’s says it contains a problem before it spreads. An unknown beast sends nothing rather than something generic — a message that cannot name the beast proves nobody is home. It carries a second half written for a person who has claimed nothing, so it survives being forwarded to a team.
And it still does not reach anyone. There was no outbound mail in this product before today — reminders surfaced in the app and nothing ever left it — and there is no provider key yet, so the send logs the recipient and subject and returns “unconfigured”. That is deliberate. A mail system that quietly drops everything is worse than one that does not exist: the second is obvious, and the first is discovered months later by somebody wondering why nobody wrote back.
